All Sun Microsystems parts are known by at least two numbers, the X-Option number and the Part number. The best way to find out what part you have is the BarCode. Every part that Sun Microsystems sells has a Sun bar-code. This bar-code has both the part number and serial number of the part. (The X-Option number is not located on the part.) - A populated DIMM bank requires an UltraSPARC III or UltraSPARC IV CPU.
- 1GB DIMM FRU F540-5086, which includes 501-6109, was released in October 2001.
- 1GB DIMM FRU F501-6109 replaced F540-5086 in December 2003.
- DIMM 501-7385 was added to F501-5030 in February 2006.
- DIMM 501-7386 was added to F501-6109 in February 2006.
- DIMM 501-7385 was removed from F501-5030 in April 2006.
- DIMM 501-7386 was removed from F501-6109 in April 2006.
- DIMM 501-7385 was added to Option 7051 in February 2006.
- DIMM 501-7386 was added to Option 7056 in February 2006.

Sun Fire 3800-6800 Notes
- For Sun Fire 3800-6800, 1GB DIMMs 501-6109 and 540-5086 are only supported on 900MHz and faster system boards.
Sun Fire E2900 Notes
- Sun Fire E2900 supports both UltraSPARC III and IV processors.
256MB DIMMs are only supported on UltraSPARC III.
2GB DIMM Notes
- 2GB DIMMs are Not supported with UltraSPARC III or UltraSPARC III Cu.
- SF 3800-6800, SF E2900/E4900/E6900, SF V1280, N1280/1290:
2GB DIMMs require firmware >= 5.20.1.
- SF 12K/15K/E20K/E25K:
2GB DIMMs require SMS >= 1.4.1 with patches >= 117371-07and >= 118595-02.
- 2GB DIMMs in the 15K and early shipped E25K require A196 power supply 300-1705 or 300-1917.
Power Supply Upgrade Kit C-HE-POWER-KIT-Z contains six 300-1917 power supplies.
Sun Fire 12K and E20K do not require the A196 power supply.
